Rehabbing the Roxy Theater in Buckhead

If you are wondering about an old theater from your childhood or an abandoned theater nearby, Cinema Treasures is the place to explore.

I never heard of "Spanish Baroque" until today. But I'm liking it. The is the Roxy Theater in the heart of Atlanta's Buckhead. I'm glad they aren't tearing it down. One of the shop fronts is still open.

Build in 1927 - from buckhead.net
"Buckhead Theater in 1930, showing first-run movies. In the 1950s it became the Capri Theater. In the 1980s that changed to the Buckhead Cinema, then the Buckhead Cinema and Drafthouse, and finally the Roxy."

I saw the Godfather here and Earthquake as first run movies, maybe some others. I saw the Godfather's "horse head" scene from the back row and I was still too close.

It became a music venue and a quite good one. Balcony seats are to die for. I saw Eric Johnson, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Government Mule, and others here.

The Cotton Exchange Building is across the street. I don't know anything about it; I think it's an office condo. Whatever it is, the facade is classic and classy.

Just north on Roswell Road is this colossal thing advertising LUBE of Atlanta, a kitchen design house with an Italian influence and a sense of humor. I've seen one of their kitchens in Castleberry Hill. It was nice.

There is quite a bit more about the Buckhead - Capri - Roxy theater at Cinema Treasures.

Thanks,
Terry
