Thanks for "Atlanta according to Terry Kearns" but I have to explain something...

Some of my answers threw JoAnn off and maybe I confused you too. I'll clear everything up in a second.

Thanks to Creative Loafing for this little feature: "Atlanta according to Terry Kearns" in which I answered 10 questions. I'm grateful to Thomas Wheatley who wrote it and to Eric Cash who took a wonderful picture that made me look slim.

Explanations: 

1. My favorite nature spot in ATL is the Duck Pond in Peachtree Heights East.
JoAnn said, "I can't believe you said 'the duck pond.'"
I am not a nature boy, I don't "get" getting back to nature and I avoid camping at all times. But I do love the Duck Pond, even more because it's one block from Peachtree Street. It never fails to surprise and delight me.

2. East Atlanta is my favorite neighborhood.
I'm a sucker for neighborhood centers. I've just spent a month visiting East Atlanta to curate my first art show at VintageATL. I declare East Atlanta Village to be the equal of any neighborhood in Atlanta. You should try it out.

But what really put East Atlanta over the top is...

3. Clough Commons at Georgia Tech is my favorite building.
I could only pick one. So I went for multipurpose, public, and crazy and the Clough is it. It's huge, amazing, open 24/7, and full of people.


Atlanta's "Spanish Steps" are part of  the Clough's indoor piazza. One of Atlanta's great spaces I think.


And there's a garden walk on top.

I hope I've cleared everything up for now.

Joe Dreher Midnight-Live-Mural-Painting for "House Portraits - House Painters - Vernacular Cracker"

I'm flabbergasted, honored, and grateful but obviously not speechless. 

Am I the last person to be the subject of a giant mural? If you don't have yours yet, please call Joe Dreher for all your mural needs and do request William Mize as co-muralist.


At 1:30 a.m. Joe (black shirt) and William (white shirt) took a hiatus to see what it looks like in daylight.

Joe and assistants buffed it in the rain.


I kind-of like it white.


Joe set up the iPad, projector, ladder, and extension cord across the street. Big thanks to Listen Up Audiobooks for the window and the electricity.



The projection began at dusk.


Joe went at it with a ladder and one of those wide-body flat pencils.


Up, trace, down, ladder-move, up, repeat.


Joe dotted my eye.


Then the black paint.


That's my glasses.


Joe drew a crowd too. About midnight William Mize (white T-shirt) showed up to assist. East Atlanta came alive at midnight.


All the while Joe took pictures of spectators for his in-house installation. Come to the opening to see if you are in the show.


After a midnight snack at the Midway, Joe and William nearly finished it.


They want to see in daylight.

Come to the opening, then see at your leisure until May 23. Maybe we'll have a closing party too.

Lizzie Chapel Is Hollowed Out But Survives in Inman Park

They had to do a history before renovating Inman Park's Lizzie Chapel. I've offered to help make it public because I still don't know who Lizzie is. I'll let you know if I hear.



I've already blogged it: "Inside Lizzie Chapel in Inman Park July 19, 2012" when it looked like this.

Since then, they've built three houses the parking lot. Now they've hollowed out the church to build six apartments.

They've saved this 84 year old landmark.

I got a peek inside.

Wow.


This cornerstone came along later then someone got effaced.





There are saving and moving four of the windows from what I understand.
