Moore Chapel is a little gem that serves the United Methodist Children's Home.
I've been driving by for decades hoping to see inside.
One day the door was wide open and I had a look inside. Glad I did. What a space, what stained glass.
I was saying "Hello, Terry here, hello" all the while. Nobody home though so I took a few pictures and a video (below).
"In Memoriam William Chandler Smith"
Cornerstone 1906
"In Memory of Frank S. Bale" Is it a "B?"
Who's who including George Muse.
The narthex stained glass window. "In Memory of Asa G. Candler III"
Looking back into the Narthex.
The first door to the left leads to a little chapel / office (see video below). The second door is the sacristy in a niche.
The ceiling.
I don't know what you call these. Decorative braces?
View from the chapel into the little chapel / office.
Stained glass pair.

Here is the little video.
Wish I'd taken more time.
Grateful for the opportunity.

ReplyDeleteIndeed and I'm not showing it well. Not a public place. It's just immaculate.
Deleteisn't that lovely a castle for god
ReplyDeleteDo you know anything about the architect? Such a lovely little place of worship!
ReplyDeleteNo, I'd certainly like to know. Anyone? Anyone?
DeleteAsa G. Candler's family started the a soda pop company that still exists to this day Don Draper helped them out a bit I suppose but that song still sticks in my head I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony ..... Not a public space so you were "visiting" and now sharing a private space with the entire world lucky for us you didn't get into trouble
ReplyDeleteI may yet get into trouble.
DeleteThank you, Terry.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the great info and images, Terry! We were looking for it.
ReplyDeleteThe property might go up for sale to a developer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting!! More will be revealed about the development. I have heard the City of Decatur has purchased this property. An incredible piece of land surrounding this church. The Granite structures on the grounds are pretty amazing, I do hope they might renovate these beautiful buildings!
