I'm participating in Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks to Susan!
Jeff finished his shutters. See Jeff's Shutters from May 20 and Jeff's Shutters #2 from July 16. Gordon designed them. Jeff built the shutters and the hardware. Paint color was a issue. Gordon wanted "stronger colors. Others wanted less strong.
The thing that pulled it all together was painting the addition.
How about that rich red door?
Before: black, too-small louver shutters. The addition was white and didn't look very integrated with the brick part.
Here is the bluer color, I did Photoshop mock-ups for Jeff and Gordon:
I like with it no shutters. The underlying formal feeling comes out that way. The house seems bigger.
Here is Jeff.
Here is Jeff, life-size with Copper.
Thanks to Metamorphosis Monday at Between Naps on the Porch.
Thanks,
Terry

Great topic, great post.
ReplyDeleteYes, amazing without shutters, especially in front. Looks more like a historical manor house in England.
Please, paint the downspouts brick color, when they traverse brick and siding color when they traverse siding.
The mailbox? I would paint it the shutter color.
Garden & Be Well, XO Tara
Painting the addition was a good move. Great looking house. Love those shutters. So much more attractive than the louvered shutters that were on the house before.
ReplyDeleteOoops, forgot.
ReplyDeleteCopper is perfect!!!
XO Tara
Shutters are like eyebrows. I have some on the inside of my guest room windows too. They just seemed to fit in with the rest of the room.
ReplyDeleteI love a red door.
That turned out GREAT! Very sharp looking. The creamy white trim, red door, painted addition - they all look super, together! (And don't look at my comments from a few months ago - I think my vote was for "no shutters" with my second place vote of "black shutters." Boy, was I wrong!!
ReplyDeleteThese turned out really wonderful -I love the painted addition in the back now. Like you said -it's all integrated now. The green is much more succesful than the blue would have been -definitely infintely better than the black!
ReplyDeleteI think they got it right! They look perfect 5*. I also wanted to tell you that I read your comments all the time, and agree with you most the time... smiles
ReplyDeleteOh Yes! That looks great! And I especially like the bright red door to contrast with those beautiful shutters. Last thing to paint ... maybe the mailbox out by the street!
ReplyDeleteP.S. And I would paint that mailbox red, to match the door! ;-)
ReplyDeleteno shutters does look great! But so does the new and improved shutter version. My biggest pet peeve is the faux shutters that aren't really the width of the window.
ReplyDeleteOh and Copper is perfect! Cutie!!
Love the design of the new shutters and the larger size looks so much better and I love the new color too.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right painting the addition brought it all together.
The size and the color look great! Glad to find you! I'm following you now!!
ReplyDeleteFor me this was a huge project and I really appreciate all of you that took the time to give me the feed back that lead to the final result. I am quite pleased with the final outcome.
ReplyDeleteI was googling exterior paint ideas and came across this lovely old post. I adore the green color of the shutters/addition siding with the creamy trim. It all goes so beautifully with the red brick. Do you recall the name of the paint colors/brand used for the shutters, siding and trim? I would love to use similar colors for the exterior of my home.
DeleteIt's too bad he's not answering. He puts a lovely design up and then doesn't mention the colors. What I wouldn't give to know what that green shutter color is.
DeleteVery Beautiful~ Shutters are like eyelashes on a house, they frame them just beautifully! Cindy
ReplyDeleteOh, I love those shutters! The home is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Niiiiiice!
ReplyDeleteTerry-painting the addition made all the difference! I like it without the shutters as well--gives it a completely different look. This would have made a great HGTV Curb Appeal segment!
ReplyDeleteThe shutter color now is wonderful. And you're right it needed the addition painted the same color. Love the shutters. Looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteLove the new color on the shutters. I wasn't a fan of the black, I liked it without any shutters, but with the new color, the house now has that certain *snap*. I love it!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Tina
Oh I really like those shutters. Very lovely!
ReplyDeleteWow - SO happy to see the final pictures, I loved your original posts. Like you and Tara, I thought the shutter-less look was charming, but I really like the choice that was made. The house looks great! The downspout doesn't bother me, but I like Tara's suggestion of a mailbox painted to match the shutters.

I am absolutely in love with the green shutter color! Does anyone know the color that Jeff used?
ReplyDeleteYes, I would also really love to know what color the shutters and addition were painted!
ReplyDeleteWow.. It's pretty great of your to create your own custom home shutters. Maybe next time you'll be having them as a business.
ReplyDeleteThe color of the shutters look really well with the whole architecture. It certainly made the house more appealing. I am also interested with window blinds and I know a good shop where you can get one. I am really excited with the ones I'm installing in my house. I hope it turns out great just like your house.
ReplyDeleteDo you happen to know the name or skew of any of the colors used?
ReplyDeleteThe front door color is Behr "Red Hawk" ECC-46-3.
ReplyDeletewhat color are the shutters?
DeleteDoes anyone know in which state this house is located?
ReplyDeleteThe front door color is Behr "Red Hawk" ECC-46-3. Thank you for that! What are the shutter and trim colors? We are moving to a brick fixer upper and definitely would like to use these colors :)! Thanks, Linda
ReplyDeleteI'M DYING TO KNOW THE COLORS OF DOOR AND SHUTTERS AS WELL. I SAW IT SAYS BEHR RED HAWK BUT I WANT THIS CONFIRMED
