Why? Well, it's colorful.
It's an architecture and site plan that appeals us. It wasn't originally built as a garden center. It's in a series of single story huts, sheds, porches, and shacks joined by gravel paths and arbors. Here, green meets blue.
Blue and orange.
Mottled red, 2 greens, bright blue door, curvy fence top, stuck-on white finials.
This little building is one a series connected sheds, partly enclosed and part cool hangout. The empty door and window frames look good.
There is an overgrown path. Where does it lead?
To the garden theater, just in case we want to put on a show or a wedding.
We love gravel paths, drives, and yards. You can't tell from the pictures but Habersham's paths are crushed terracotta mixed with deep blue glass pebbles. It's a great effect.
The garden center got us feeling colorful and eclectic. We had to try it ourself. So we bought this inexpensive outdoor rug for our porch. We'll see how that turns out.

How much fun it would be to crunch, crunch, crunch on the gravel paths whilst picking out perfect pots(hey, try saying that quickly!)and perhaps finding a perfect plant not common(here anyway) such as the rose campions my husband just planted for me or maybe finding the cutest bench ever!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your landscaping post which I had tracked back to a few days ago and I meant to comment on your rabbit "sentry." I have the identical rabbit in my perennial garden! Mine comes in during the fall/winter seasons in Ohio and "she" is currently nearly hidden amongst the irises.

Susan, you are so nice to drop by. Our bunny came from "House Parts" along with the big concrete urns on our porch. It was in 1979 on one of the really great shopping trips while we were renovating.

I have never been to Habersham Gardens, but then again, I have no skill for gardening so I don't frequent any garden stores! However, this one looks like it would be a fun outing with the kids (as long as they don't run crazy through the paths).
ReplyDeleteI was recently walking the dog near Chastain park, and stopped at a garage sale. I noticed some crushed gravel paths leading off the back of the house, and the owner invited me to check out their private walking trails. It turns out that the house is on a 3 acre piece of land, and her parents (who lived in the house before her) had sculpted at least a mile of walking trail right on their own property - I was reminded of this when seeing the crushed stone paths in this post.
I like garden centers. The smell reminds me of following my green-thumbed dad around in nurseries and green houses.
ReplyDeleteAt the very least they all seem to have great urns these days. We're using garden urns with Pier 1 glass tops as night stand right now.
Hastings Seed on Peachtree has garden walks. The old Hastings Seed on Cheshire was like a small farm amidst the traffic. Habersham is lake that was but better. Pike center are huge and fun but still seem like a store.
If we're shopping for garden supplies we do Habersham last because it's least like a store. It's a pleasant place to be. It's free and easy to get to if you don't want to spend the afternoon at the Botanical Gardens.
It's really very complex in this active life to listen news on TV, therefore I only use world wide web for that reason, and take the hottest information.
