He's done one window (lower right) for the whole neighborhood to see. The opinions are rolling it. I PhotoShopped the rest of the windows.
Opinions are divided about colors but not about Gordon's design of the new beefy shutters. They are in scale with the windows, unique in the neighborhood, and show up the puny old black ones. Here is the Photoshopped version. What do you think?
What about the side?
I'm not sure all the side windows need shutters. Or, maybe the middle windows need flower boxes - a decisions best left to the design scientists?
Jeff is building the shutters and the hardware himself. Here he is with Copper and a project he did for us - a base with legs for what we call our "thing." Jeff is the one standing on his hind legs.

ReplyDeleteHello Ms. PostRoad, The "Thing" is really awesome. It's like the top part of something disassembled from the bottom. We got it at a salvage place. Gordon said, "Buy this, we'll worry about the legs later. The legs came from a sofa I picked up of the curb.

ReplyDeleteJeff's shutter design is PERFECT and I don't even think I'd mind the color except for the fact that the windows new stain or paint(?) doesn't mesh with the soft blue.
Boy, could I see that color on a cream-colored brick! I know, I know, I should have soap put in my mouth!

ReplyDeleteLoving the detail of the shutters...and like the side of the house with all shutters as well. I would even add window boxes to those middle windows.
I do think however, that the front door should be painted to look more casual, like the new windows and shutters. Maybe wood to match the window mullions? Cream to match the surround? A blue a few shades darker than the shutters?
The house is formal, and the shutters are informal. The brass kickplate and handset are are working against the informality of the great new shutters. It's almost like you have to switch to a country style for the house, and take it all the way.

ReplyDeleteThe shutters are expensive, I think more $1500 just for the wood. Hinges and dogs can be more that $100/shutter. You can probably imagine the labor cost for making, painting, and hanging custom shutters.
I love those shutters! I might try a more cream color instead of the gray, but either way they look better than the teeny tiny black ones!
ReplyDeleteI love the new size of the shutters. They look great, but am not a fan of that grey. I would paint them black OR a very, very dark forest green -- so dark they almost appear black. Just my two cents! Keep up the good work, guys! Wish you lived in my neighborhood!

ReplyDeleteI love these kinds of shutters - it really is going to change the house. Now = no offense Jeff, but here I'm on I.D talk right now. If this adorable house was mine, I would paint the brick along with the new shutters - it would really change up the house. Either way i love it, just a thought though.

ReplyDeleteI love the creative use of Photoshop on deciding which design you will use for your shutters. I am also contemplating on getting one, so I think I should follow your example and try it on my window blinds. Indianapolis, being a huge place, I can get some inspiration on design whenever I am on my way to work.
