Preference for Porches and Patina in the (Grant ) Park

I love the L.P. Grant Mansion. Even the back porch has patina. People want to be there.

    There was some controversy in the 1850s when the house was being built over the placement of the fireplaces in the corners of the rooms. Grant's relative supervising the construction didn't like them there. Evidently, architect Calvin Fay's original plan won the day, however.

    They sure look fine in the corners. The rooms end up being about the windows rather than the fireplaces.
