These Atlanta teardowns mostly South of Buckhead are done There are more of these than ever in the intown neighborhoods. Somebody's got some money. The spec houses sell fast, most before they are complete. A few of these are custom designs.
One was a poptop:
Morningside
Lake Claire:
Buckhead
Morningside
Sherwood Forest
Midtown
Lenox Park (Morningside)
Winnona Park Decatur
Argonne Forest, Buckhead
I live in Bethesda Maryland, same thing happening here. The manchanization of whole neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteI live in CT and realize this could happen in any city neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI do find it interesting seeing the before and the afters.
If your in-town neighborhood has "the schools" and unlovable housing stock, this is probably happening. Our Pre-wars usually get rehabbed; our postwar un-rehabbed 1200 square-footers get knocked as they come up for sale.
DeleteI love following the teardowns Terry! For the most part the after was better than what was there to begin with. My least favs were the Buckhead brick house and the Argonne Forest house - bleh! Of course my fav was the contemporary (a good contemporary will fit in anywhere won't it?) All in all, the builders did well to fit in with the existing pattern language.
ReplyDeleteWow, just started following your blog after finding it through your post on cathedral inspiration house.
ReplyDeleteI've just returned to Atlanta after living in Richmond, VA for Fifteen years. This city has changed greatly. Some things are inevitable, I guess. All the homes there surrounding the city are very traditional makeovers in keeping with the history and architecture.
I'm in agreement with you, someone has money to spend. these are all great make overs.
Love the blog.
